MHHS Programme Test Data Cut

Thank you to all Systems Integration Testing (SIT) participants for conducting the Test Data Cut on Saturday 19 August 2023. The Test Data Cut was successfully executed by all SIT participants.

The Test Data Team is now working with the SIT participants to ensure the Test Data is ready for the beginning of Component Integration Testing (CIT), in line with the participants’ assigned CIT intervals.

Please note that following industry consultation and feedback, the Programme will tailor the provision of Test Data by introducing a targeted Test Data Cut in time for specific Test Phases.

Non-SIT participants were not required to take a Test Data Cut on Saturday 19 August 2023.

If you are a non-SIT participant, you are required to take a Test Data Cut later in the Programme for your Qualification Testing. However, we don't expect that this will be required until at least Q2 2024.

Preparing for Component Integration Testing (CIT) and Systems Integration Testing (SIT) Functional

The Testing team:

  • Conducted bilaterals with each SIT participant to inform them exactly what subset of data is required. These took place between 19 June-19 July 2023.
  • Cleansed, augmented, and transformed the received subsets of data as necessary. The team will then allocate the manipulated data to the relevant participants.
  • Will return the manipulated and allocated data to each Programme participant. Participants must then upload the data to the relevant test systems and databases before the start of your entry into the relevant SIT Test Stage.

What will SIT participants receive from the Programme?

SIT participants will receive at least two sets of augmented data:

  1. First set to support CIT Test Execution ahead of CIT
  2. Second set to support SIT Functional Test Execution ahead of SIT Functional Testing

What are my responsibilities as a SIT participant?

Each Programme participant who is required to conduct a Test Data Cut is responsible for:

  • Obtaining or developing the appropriate means for conducting the Production Back-up
  • Data storage
  • Extracting and transferring the subset data, via a secure solution, required by the Programme
  • Loading the Test Data Cut into their own test systems and databases
  • Uploading and loading its own test systems and databases with the augmented and manipulated data provided by the MHHS Testing Team

Please see below a link to the SIT Functional Data Loading High-Level Guidance document, which outlines the approach for the data preparation phase for SIT Functional:

We're here to help!

We are committed to supporting SIT participants through their CIT and SIT journey, and we will provide enhanced communication and engagement activities to ensure your organisation is set-up for success. We’ll share more information about these activities via our usual Programme channels.

If you have any questions or require clarification on any of the above, please email Testing@mhhsprogramme.co.uk, or reach out to your Programme Party Coordinator (PPC) Team representative at PPC@mhhsprogramme.co.uk

Overarching Test Data Approach & Plan

On 19 June, the Programme published the latest red-lined version of the Overarching Test Data Approach & Plan for a second round of industry consultation. This consultation closed on Friday 23 June.

Thank you to all participants who reviewed and provided feedback on these documents.

The Overarching Test Data Approach & Plan document aims to define a Test Data Approach that will deliver an aligned set of data for Systems Integration Testing (SIT) and User Integration Testing (UIT). The document covers data management, allocation, cleansing, storage, archiving and maintenance and provides a definition for Programme Industry Test participants on the Test Data Approach.

Participants were requested to only provide input and feedback on the red-lined areas of the document.

The Testing team reviewed the feedback and updated the documents, along with the Consolidated Comments Log.

This document has been approved by the Data Working Group (DWG) and the Testing and Migration Advisory Group (TMAG).

Industry Standing Data Samples

Industry Standing Data (ISD) is a new set of common data required by participants and is being introduced by the Programme to replace the legacy Market Domain Data.

Elexon's Helix Programme has produced a number of documents and files for participants. You can view these files and some supporting guidance on the Industry Standing Data Samples page of the Collaboration Base.

If you have any feedback, comments or queries about these files, please email isd@mhhsprogramme.co.uk

Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)

The SFTP is a network protocol for securely accessing, transferring and managing large files and sensitive data. The Programme has an SFTP Service configured to transfer Test Data between the Programme and the participants.

Systems Integration Testing (SIT) participants have been asked to complete the SFTP Access Request Form which is available below, to grant them access to the SFTP environment.

SFTP Access Request Form

Participants must fill in the form and email the completed document to Testing@mhhsprogramme.co.uk as soon as possible. The original deadline was extended to allow for outstanding submissions.

To further support participants to understand SFTP, we've produced a Test Data SFTP Guide which provides a summary of the SFTP and a technical description of the environment. You can view this document below:

Component Integration Testing (CIT) Interval Data Readiness: Supporting Information

The Test Data team has recently held bilateral meetings with participants from each CIT Interval to discuss the Programme’s approach to CIT in relation to data and the preparation that will be required from participants.

Please see the following documents that were used in each CIT Interval bilateral, with supporting information:
